Looks: Small duck. Male has black neck collar and white wing bar. Whitish head, neck and under parts. Glossy blackish above. Eclipse male is like female but has a white wing bar. Female dull brown above and has a dark stripe through eyes. Lives: Inland waters-Ponds and Tanks filled with reeds and vegetation.
തലയിലും കഴുത്തിലും അടിഭാഗത്തും വെളുത്ത നിറമുള്ള ഈ ചെറിയ കാട്ടുതാറാവിൽ ആണിന് കഴുത്തിനുചുറ്റും കറുത്ത വളയമുണ്ട്. പറക്കുമ്പോൾ ചിറകുകളുടെ പിന്നരികിൽ വീതിയുള്ള വെള്ളക്കര തെളിഞ്ഞുകാണാം. മങ്ങിയ തവിട്ടുനിറമുള്ള പെൺപക്ഷിയുടെ കണ്ണിനുപിറകിൽ കറുത്ത വരയുണ്ട്. ഉൾനാടൻ ജലാശയങ്ങളിൽ കണ്ടുവരുന്നു.
